They are a highly successful global physical commodity company who are expanding their operations to include a metals prop trading desk. This is an opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Prop Trader to join our team and lead the establishment of this new business area.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a proprietary trader in metals markets, with a proven track record of success.
- Strong understanding of physical commodity trading, including spot, futures, and options trading.
- Proficiency in trading platforms, market data systems, and trading software.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and analyse market data and develop trading strategies.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with statistical tools and programming languages are advantageous.
- In-depth understanding of global metals markets, including supply and demand dynamics, price drivers, and market microstructure.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements related to metals trading.
- Comprehensive knowledge of risk management techniques and best practices in trading.
- Proven ability to manage trading positions, implement effective risk controls, and mitigate potential risks.
- Leadership and Communication:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to build and manage a team of traders.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, and industry stakeholders.
Reporting to the CEO and also the Financial Director the role will include the following responsibilities:
- Develop and implement effective trading strategies based on comprehensive market analysis, technical indicators, and fundamental factors.
- Monitor market trends, news, and events to identify trading opportunities and mitigate potential risks.
- Take a leading role in establishing the metals prop trading desk, working closely with management and stakeholders to define strategies, risk parameters, and trading infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Finance and IT teams to implement trading systems, connectivity, and data feeds to facilitate efficient trading operations.
- Develop and maintain trading models, tools, and algorithms to enhance trading efficiency and profitability.
- Together with the finance team, develop and implement robust risk management frameworks, including position sizing, stop-loss mechanisms, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and manage trading positions to ensure compliance with defined risk limits and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments and refine risk management strategies based on changing market conditions.
Market Analysis and Research:
- In cooperation with the existing research team, conduct in-depth market research, analyse supply and demand dynamics, macroeconomic factors, and geopolitical events affecting the metals market.
- Identify and evaluate trading opportunities through the interpretation of market data, charts, and indicators.
- Stay abreast of industry developments, market trends, and regulatory changes to anticipate potential impact on trading strategies.
