SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Ideally educated to degree level with an ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification.
  • Strong experience working within a finance department is required, preferably experience of working in an Accountant level role.
  • Demonstrable experience of real competency in double entry bookkeeping and accounting principles is required, achieved either by relevant experience or via fully qualified AAT or part or full CIMA/ACCA/ACA professional qualification.
  • Detailed knowledge and extensive experience of IFRS is required.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written presentations.
  • Well-organised with clear, effective and practical planning skills demonstrated.
  • A track record of operating to tight deadlines in a challenging, dynamic, and changing environment.
  • Excellent IT skills, in particular, advanced competency in MS Excel and application to accounting systems is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong attention to detail.

THE ROLE
You will assist the Financial Controller in a finance team of 3 with the management of the financial accounting processes and reporting, the payroll, pensions accounting systems forecasting and budgeting cycles. Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will provide feedback on day-to-day running of the department and suggest recommendations for areas needing improvement. You will also provide ongoing support to the Accounts Assistant in the Finance Team and the Purchasing Co-ordinators in the Purchasing Team. You will have a wide range of contacts including liaising with external advisors on audit and taxation material and liaising with the senior management (Strategic Executive) members for preparation of budget and forecast material as well as liaising with accounting software providers to ensure maintenance and functionality of the accounting system. Responsibilities include:

  • Completion of month end reporting process for group companies, including the monthly reporting pack submission to the board and Strategic Executive management team.
  • Completion of parent company monthly and quarterly accounting packages in accordance with strict deadlines.
  • Completion of supporting documentation and quarterly reconciliations to support the accounting packages.
  • Assist with the completion of statutory financial reporting requirements.
  • Review of VAT return.
  • Preparation of Research and Development Expenditure Credit (RDEC) claims.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual company and department budgets.
  • Maintain budgets in the accounting system.
  • Process payroll and pensions for the company.
  • Process year end payroll data for employees and the Government.
  • Facilitate the financial elements of employee benefit schemes.
  • Preparation of P11Ds
  • Maintain the accounting system, including system reports for budget holders.
  • Facilitate finance policies and provide training to ensure first class levels of compliance and continuous improvement of accounting policies.
  • Responsible for implementing finance system changes and upgrades.
