Who They Are
The group, who are specialists debt and distressed investments have 3 offices in Europe including its London head office with more European offices planned in the next 18 months. They currently have €1billion under management which is expected to double in the next 18 months. They now have a newly created urgent requirement for a central financial controller is need to coordinate the service providers and local CFO functions, to produce "consolidated" financials, cashflow and performance analysis as well as providing financial information for the London office.

The Role
Each local office has a CFO and prepares local management/statutory accounts. The London bookkeeping is also outsourced. The role reports to the London COO. At some stage this financial controller role will become more strategically driven and the role responsibilities will change as the role changes. Initially working on your own but with the expectation to build a small finance team underneath you, your role includes the following but not limited to:

  • Ownership of the monthly management accounts process (prepared by external bookkeeper) and review of output (for London); gathering of financial information form overseas offices and consolidation into a reporting pack; Monthly cashflow update (all offices), variance analysis and firmwide balance monitoring;
  • Preparation and review of year-end financial statements prepared by bookkeeper (London);
  • Assistance with preparation of external investor reports with assistance of local CFOs and oversight from COO and Portfolio Monitoring Team;
  • Preparation and maintaining budget and forecast models to support the business for all entities (currently UK, Italy, Greece) with oversight and guidance from COO;
  • Taxation: Review of VAT returns prepared by bookkeeper; check LLP tax computation and maintain awareness of all group tax issues (structural; transactional; HR related);
  • Assist with the audit process;
  • Review FCA submissions (prepared by bookkeeper) and monitor Regulatory Capital;
  • Oversight of Office Manager's preparation of expense invoices and personal expense claims. Ensure invoice log is maintained and monitor expenses within budget;
  • Preparation of reporting packs for the management team and main stakeholder;

Who They Are Looking For
To be considered for this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • A qualified accountant with financial services experience;
  • Exposure to multi-site accounting;
  • A hands on, sleeves up attitude and possess excellent communication skills, numeracy, accuracy, multi-tasking;
  • Need to be flexible - the size of the business dictates involvement in all areas of the business from strategic support to reconciliations;
  • Be able to work on own initiative;
  • Possess advanced Excel skills.
