The Opportunity
This role supports the group's finance director, manage the day to day operation of the syndicate finance function and contribute to the general management of the company. You must have a solid management background and have detailed Lloyd's returns experience to lead all syndicate and agency activity:

  • To manage and lead the syndicate finance teams for two major syndicates on a daily basis, providing leadership and overall guidance to all staff working within the function. You will be responsible for professional development of direct reports.
  • Primary ownership of the syndicates' financial close including management of the process to ensure integrity and delivery of all regulatory, statutory and stakeholder financial reporting for the syndicates.
  • Management of syndicates' expense budgeting and business planning processes.
  • Ownership of syndicates forecasting including technical underwriting projections, balance sheet and cash flow forecasting. Maintaining an effective forecast that provides expectations, analysis and challenge.
  • Responsibility for managing the syndicates' financial compliance
  • Reviewing and (where relevant) improving syndicate financial controls on a rolling basis
  • Liaison with external auditors on the syndicates' audit and any relevant internal audit reviews led by Head of Financial Policy & Control
  • Management of syndicate related tax returns
  • Management of the preparation, maintenance and application of accounting policies in accordance with current UK accounting standards (UK GAAP) or IFRS where relevant
  • Oversight of syndicate finance projects, including IT Financial systems development where relevant.
  • Liaison with internal customers (primarily the syndicate management committee leadership team, Group Finance Director and other senior managers throughout the business) and external stakeholders when required

Who They Are Looking For
To be considered for this excellent role, you must in addition to meeting the criteria below also must have a solid management background and have detailed Lloyd's returns experience to lead all syndicate and agency activity:

  • Graduate Qualified Accountant with at least 5 years insurance experience in a syndicate reporting & management role.
  • Strong technical UK GAAP is essential and IFRS is desired
  • Good understanding of London and International insurance/reinsurance market dynamics and detailed Lloyd's returns experience.
  • General computer literacy- Excel, Word, Powerpoint etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, report writing and presentation skills.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to plan ahead.
