Five Signs To Quit Your Job

When you start a new job, it’s certainly an exciting period. You’ve stood out with your CV, passed the daunting interview stage and have finally been able to achieve the position you desired.

At the beginning, you feel motivated to work, eager to get the best results and most importantly, you want to prove to your employer that they made the right decision in hiring you.

However, this novelty can wear off after some time for a number of reasons, which are also signs that it may be time to throw the towel in and quit your job.

1) No motivation to work 

Sometimes, a severe lack of motivation can lead to spending more time proscratinating or putting off work, rather than actually doing it. While this happens to everyone from time to time, if there’s nothing in your work that engages or motivates you in any way, then it may be time to consider whether the role is right for you anymore.

2) You dread going to work

Obviously, things like Monday blues or post-holiday blues happens to all of us and is totally normal. However, this isn’t the same as spending practically every night dreading the thought of going back to work the following day, or thinking of excuses to call in sick.

These sorts of thoughts are certainly not normal or healthy mentally, and is a sure sign to consider.

3) It’s affecting your mental health

Mental health is an extemely important factor to consider when it comes to your work life. Working a job you hate or don’t enjoy on a daily basis can affect your mental health in terms of depression and anxiety.

Bad mental health can also take a toll on your physical health, as it can cause a number of issues including insomnia, headaches, fatigue, stomach problems and chronic pain.

If you are experiencing, or have experienced, these kind of problems due to your job, then you should definitely consider leaving your position. At the end of the day, no job is worth sacrificing your mental wellbeing.

4) No room for progression

If you don’t feel you are able to advance or grow in your current job, then there’s no point wasting anymore time there. If your current employer doesn’t support or give you the opportunity to progress, then you’re only wasting your time as well as affecting your career in the long run.

If you feel you’re just going to be stuck in the same position in your current company, then it may be time to consider moving on.

5) Toxic work environment

There are many factors that contribute to a bad work environment – poor communication, bad management, cliquey colleagues and so on. All of these things can have a severe impact on how we work and how we feel about going to work. A negative work environment will only make you feel unmotivated, unwilling and unhappy,

If you feel your current work environment is bad, then don’t waste anymore time there. It isn’t doing any good for both your career and your wellbeing.

It’s important to ask yourself these things when it comes to your current job – Am I motivated to work? How do I feel about going to work? Is the environment a good one? Is there an opportunity to progress in my career?

You should also remember that a job you don’t enjoy is only a waste of your life and your career and you may find you have great potential elsewhere.
