Tips on How to Leave Work at Work

With an ever-growing to-do list, mounting stress and the ability to answer emails from bed at 2AM, it’s easy to take work home, however, this could actually be harmful!

Here are a few tips on how to leave work where it should be – at work!

  1. Set a reminder to go home – sounds silly, but sometimes you can get caught up in your work and not realise that the clock has hit 5PM, or you convince yourself ‘just 30 more minutes,’ however, having this tiny reminder can do wonders from saving your brain from burnout.
  2. Unplug – sounds easier than it actually is, however, your free time belongs to you! Try your best to not check your emails and enjoy your free time!
  3. Make a to-do list at the end of each day for the next one – this will help you in the morning and it will help ease the worries that you forgot something!
  4. Create a ritual to transition from work to personal time – on your commute home, maybe listen to a playlist/podcast or read a book that you enjoy. Every day you will look forward to this little celebration of your hard work!
  5. Change your clothes – top leaders have said that the minute they get home, they change out of their work clothes; this transition helps relax them and aids in the change in mindset.

It’s unlikely anyone can ever truly leave work at work, however, these simple steps can help you start.
