Cost and Project Management Accountant

The Role
This newly created business critical role sits within the bank's Finance team, reporting to the Group Management Accountant (who reports to the CFO) and has come about due to the increased IT budget and spend demanded by business growth and new technological advancements. Possibly fifty per cent of your time will be spent focussed on deep understanding, analysis and explanation of the Bank's IT spend and on-going costs as well as those relating to various IT projects occurring within the Bank. You will have oversight, control and reporting of the bank's operating costs and project spend as well as providing effective challenge on a technical level to IT project and line expenditure. Additionally you will develop management information across the business, daily monitoring of specific key performance measures and dashboards and have various other responsibilities. You will also be a contact point to heads of departments re accounting and budgeting enquiries as well as a general contact within the finance function. Specifically the role includes:

  • Oversight, control and reporting of the bank's operating costs and project spend through the rolling forecast, budgeting and 5 year plan cycles.
  • Assist the Senior Management Accountant in providing robust challenge on a technical level to IT project spend, PID's and budgets. Identify and report subsequent efficiencies gained from project implementations around the business.
  • Support Division account manager responsible for the delivery of timely and accurate MI to the budget holders, problem resolution and cost challenge where appropriate; through the rolling forecast, budgeting and 5 year plan cycles.
  • Administration of the year end cost accruals process.Development of management information across the business, to include: -
      • Integration MI into the business and subsequent user support.
      • Creation of dashboards, publishable on the bank's intranet.
  • Ownership and integrity of the bank's Fixed Asset Register.
  • Administration of SunAccounts GL, Bank Retail GL and Bank Treasury GL.
  • Supplier due diligence analysis and reporting.
  • Management of daily downloads from the banking system(s) and interfaces to GL.
  • Administration of the Banks Purchase Ledger and resolving system issues.
  • Support the Group Management Accountant in the regular monitoring of lending and deposit, volumes and margins; investigating and reporting variances as appropriate.
  • Support the Group Management Accountant with the preparation of monthly E.G. Pack for the Executive Group and Board.
  • Preparation and development of the monthly ALCO pack for review by the Group Management Accountant.
  • Overview of MHT management reports and financial statements.
  • Supplier due diligence; preparation of reports and analysis for review by the Group Management Accountant.
  • Ad hoc tasks, analysis and reports as directed by the Group Management Accountant.

Who they are looking for
To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualified Accountant with strong experience of facing off with IT departments and Project Managers regarding budgets and costs.
  • Strong Management Reporting experience.
  • Strong IT and Accounting systems knowledge and experience as well as good Excel skills.
  • Financial Reporting experience preferred.
